Reflexology
The origins of Reflexology evidently reach back to ancient Egypt as evidenced by inscriptions found in the physician’s tomb at Saqqara in Egypt - see image on the right. The hieroglyphics on the original image are translated as follows: "Don’t hurt me." The practitioner’s reply:- "I shall act so you praise me." We cannot determine the exact relationship between the ancient art as practiced by the early Egyptians and Reflexology as we know it today. Different forms of working the feet to effect health have been used all over the ancient world. It is maintained that this form of healing spread from Egypt via the Roman Empire.
The healing art and science of reflexology is based on the reflection of the body in miniature on the feet. By working gently on feet with their hands, reflexologists stimulate each foot’s thousands of nerve endings and reflex points to help energy to flow freely. At a physical, mental and emotional level a person is freed to become whole.
People of all ages, from babies to great-grandparents, can benefit from reflexology. It works well alongside western medicine and other therapies – it is truly ‘complementary’.
It is especially good for stress-related problems. Some stress is positive, as it helps us to work hard, but too much stress puts the immune system under pressure. We suffer from ailments and illnesses more often, and feel constantly under par. Reflexology can help to prevent this from happening.
